Anyone else who has a different schedule because kids aren't in school and you are stuck working out at 10pm or later....please help.

I've been very successful in losing until my routine just got completely goofed up. Gym has no childcare which makes me workout out late and when I get home I 'm wide awake, for hours!!!!! I finally fall asleep around 3am then I'm back at life at 8am latest.

The tiredness makes me hungry and grumpy.

I'd love any ideas for calming down after a good workout that don't involve alcohol, medicine...solutions.

Go for a walk or run at your usual time instead of going to the gym late at night? Dance, play, hike.

Have you tried getting up early instead and going to bed early at the same time as the kids?

Thanks for the suggestions! I am sooo not a morning person but I might have to train myself to be one. Yuck!

I do stuff with kids all the time for exercise that I don't log. I really feel like I've accomplished something when I go to the gym and work my tail off. I went from being slightly sedentary to loving to gym, who knew?! :). Not to mention the gym is two hours of no kids. It is all about me and my goals.

Up your activity with your kids. Go swimming, hiking, biking, skating etc. All activity counts.

Or find a reliable person you can trade two hours a day watching each other's kids. Or bribe a family member with kiddo time every afternoon or morning or evening or whatever. There are options.

Wrap up the day with a little meditation, gentle yoga, or a warm lavender-scented bubble bath? :)

Invest in one piece of gym equipment that you can use at home while the kids are playing in another room. A treadmill or other favorite. Cost would probably be less than one year of gym.

Try some home workout videos. I love insanity and fitnessblender.com. it's really, really hard to work out later in the evening, and then try and fall asleep. For me anyway.

So, if you're not a morning person, try the home workout routines. Or babysitting exchange with a neighbor.

I'd try for early morning. You can train yourself to like them especially when it's cool and peaceful before the hot summer day starts. I've been walking my dog at 6 AM because it's like 108 today! I really like the peacefulness of the morning.

How old are your kids. I usually work out after work at home and my 5yo does his own version along with me. Sometimes he gets bored and plays with his toys or watch tv.

I do a lot of workout DVDs or YouTube vids. I have dumbbells, stability ball and resistance bands which works for me.

I wake up at 4.30am and I refuse to wake up earlier to workout so I try to do it as soon as I am at home (usually 5pm).

Can you afford a babysitter? Maybe a teenager or two are looking for summer jobs!

I've had the same problem with exercising late, it revs me up instead of wearing me out. My son had trouble falling asleep and tried melatonin, at the suggestion of his doctor, which he says helped. ASK YOUR DOCTOR FIRST. It's an over-the-counter supplement, but I don't know if there are any contraindications or interactions with anything else. My son took it half an hour before going to bed and he'd actually get sleepy 20 minutes later.
