I usually cut down sodium and eat rice to get rid of the water retention.

Same thing happened to me over the winter....drink a ton of water, coffee and tea. Eat 90% plant-based --lots of berries and water-heavy fruit (cantaloupe, pineapple, watermelon) and veggies. Avoid bread, pasta, sweets. Even 48 hours of this should do the trick.

Eat lean meats and fibrous veg, reduce food intake, don't overhydrate or eat excessively salty food.

Avoid chewing gum, carbonated beverages, sugar alcohols, salty foods, and eating too much at one time.

    Why chewing gum?

Chewing gum causes you to swallow air, causing gas to get trapped in the GI system, same reason for carbonated beverages.
