If your goal is to lose weight, how much you eat is going to have far more impact than exercise. Get that down first. Just exercise as much as you want and can. It's good for your fitness, and buys you more calories. In general, light physical activity can be done every day, and vigorous physical activity you should give yourself one or two rest days per week. Don't push yourself too hard, as that's a recipe for burnout and injury.

If your goal is fitness related (training for a 5K, bodybuilding, team sports, etc.) you would be better off posting in the Fitness forum and being specific about your goals to get the best advice.

Anything will be a start. However don't forget strength training. It's important too. It will help you maintain muscle mass as you lose weight.

My personal preference is to avoid the treadmill. It's just not my thing. Some people love it. I'm just not one of them.

Basically start for as long as you can withoit feeling like crap. Then progressivly try to extend that time. I'm not a treadmill fan, I prefer a rowing machine or stationary bike for myself. It also helps me to pick a fun podcast or audiobook to listen to, rather than just music or news, because if you get into the story, you lose track of time much easier. Right now I'm doing Welcome to Nightvale, or Thrilling Adventure Hour.
