I had knee surgery to move my knee cap and clean out the arthritis that was in February now the knee hurts more then before the surgery and it is swollen and painful just to touch it. Walking is very hard and is causing my other knee to hurt more. My problem is that im eating more to try to forget about the pain for a few minutes. Im waiting to see the orthopedic dr but i go through the VA hospital and they are very slow. Not sure what to do.

Can you buy a bunch of crunchy vegetables to munch on? I like radishes, carrots, celery, cucumber, zucchini, and a side of hummus or cottage cheese. At least it is pretty low calorie and filling.
I hope you get in to the doctor soon.1 -
Call he Dr office back and tell them you think it's infected. This doesn't sound normal.5

It's a good idea to visit the ER of that VA hospital. Post op pain, swelling ,and immobility need to be evaluated. Do not hesitate. You might even need some anti inflammatory medications . Eating more and being inactive could cause more weight gain which will only exacerbate your pain .2

Go the ER. Good luck.

See the doctor and also try magnesium and potassium.0

If your local VA doesn't have an ER, call the VA Telephone Care Service 24/7 @ 888-598-7793 to be triage by a RN and get preapproved to be seen by whatever local ER is available to you. Or just go and then call the VA within 72 hours to notify of the visit and schedule a followup with your PCP.
Hopefully, I've got the right telephone number. I pulled it off of https://www.madison.va.gov/documents/Telephone-Care.pdf since I can't find my phone at the moment.0 -
Thanks everyone I will go to the hospital and see what they tell me and will call veterans Choice and see how things are going. They are the one that will send me to the orthopedic doctor. Things with the VA are slow0

Even in Canadian public universal health care there is a concept called triage. Life threatening risks like an out of control infection jump to the front of the queue. Is the knee also hot to the touch?1

My knee is not red or hot and have no fever it is just swollen and very painful0
