Carbs and fat loss

Hi there.

I needed guidance on how to achieve my goals. I wish to lose fat, and of course, the easiest way is by cutting carbs. The problem is I fall into that uncomfortable situation where I get headaches and get cranky when I don't eat carbs (the healthy ones).

My question is, is it possible to lose fat at a constant rate while still consuming carbs (say rice and potatoes)?

Note: I lift heavy (for about 1.5 hours) and perform around 15 mins of hiit 3 times a week.

I would echo the sentiments of Alatariel75. Fat loss/weight loss is the product of being in a calorie deficit. Your carb intake has no direct impact whatsoever on if you happen to be in such a deficit or not. I realize much of pop culture and fad diets often embrace macro specific mantras, but at the end of the day it is all a matter of calories in vs. calories out.

I lost 60+ pounds eating 40-50% carbs. Losing weight is about cutting calories, not carbs.

If you want to stay low carb, you may just need to increase sodium. When carbs are cut, insulin falls which causes water and electrolytes to be lost. If electrolytes get low you may experience headaches, fatigue, crankiness, stomach issues, BM issues, muscle aches and even spasms. Taking 3000-5000 mg of sodium per day is usually enough. That's about 2 teaspoons of table salt per day.

I have managed to lose heaps of weight while keeping my carbs between 150-200 grams a day. Carbs are not the devil when it comes to weight loss and can be part of a healthy balanced diet. If going low carb does not work for you then simply don't do it. Anything that is not sustainable for you will just result in yoyo dieting.

Also remember that research has shown that over a year the difference in weight loss between a LCHF diet and a HCLF diet is miniscule.

Carbs are not the devil at all.
If you're lifting that much, make sure your protein is high enough to get decent muscle recovery.
Then decide how many carbs you want/need to be happy (v important - me too!).
Then the rest of your daily allowance is fat.

My trainer sets me macro goals but has made it very clear that my carbs and fats are interchangeable depending on how I feel. It's only really the protein that I need to hit every day in order to get the results I want.
    It's working too...

The easiest way isn't just cutting carbs. Carbs are not evil. Rice and potatoes are foods that you should be eating. Maintain an overall calorie deficit
