Garmin Vivioactive HR monitor calories burned?

When doing cardio on the elliptical/stair climber machine at planet fitness how do I measure that? The machine gives me X number of calories that I never trust, but then my garmin vivioactive HR also gives me a calories burned number for my workout based on my hr. The two numbers were fairly similar give or take ~40 cals. My hr average was 140 and peaked at 190 and in 30 minutes garmin said around 350 cals burned, is that unrealistic?

In principle, both have reasons to be wrong, but based on different factors.
For 30 minutes on an elliptical about 250 would feel closer, possibly a bit high.
The main thing is to pick a method and stick with it. Over time of you find yourself losing faster than planned then eat back more, and if slower then eat back less.1 -
^^^agree 100%. I don't think there is any 100%reliable way to calculate calorie burn. Pick a device, stick with it, and monitor what happens with weight. If the Garmin is consistent with itself, you'll be able to sort it out!0
