Question for ladies with PCOS

So, I suspect I have PCOS. I have a couple of symptoms related to it:

- excessive body and facial hair (upper lip, chin, legs, arms)
- I have acne (currently it's almost nonexistant, but it comes back every now and then)
- I was overweight (170 lbs @ 5'5") but lost the weight, thankfully. However, even at a low weight of 110 lbs, I had belly fat, especially lower belly. I have gained about 20 pounds, the lower belly fat is still there.
- When I started mensturating, my cycles were all over the place. My doctor sorted it out, and now I'm very regular.

Should I get tested for it? My family and friends think I'm worrying for no apparent reason. And I, too, think the symptoms are very general.

i'm not sure if there is a definitive test for it, but i would definitely seek medical advice. there are meds and special diets you can follow to help with symptoms.
  • I would certainly get myself tested if you suspect you may, but from what you've said, it sounds like if you had it, it may have gotten remedied.

I'd definitely have a chat with my doctor about getting an ultrasound if I were you (that's how mine was diagnosed), especially if your mom has it (or displays symptoms of it, like hirsutism, unexplained weight gain, etc etc etc) or it or something like Cushing's syndrome runs in your family.
