Do ankle weights benefit?

I strapped a couple of ankle weights on before starting chores this morning. Are there benefits or am I just the victim of wishful thinking?

What do you think the benefits would be?

I wouldn't use them for everyday activities and walking as I've heard they can affect your gait. But I sometimes use them for added resistance to certain glute exercises like kickbacks, hip extensions, abductions, etc.

..Hanging Leg Raises, Plyometric Split Squats, Air Bicycles, V-Ups, Reverse Crunches, Pull-Ups/Chin-Ups, Jumping/Seal Jacks, etc

A way to lift weights without lifting weights? Adding resistance to walking? I thought they might have benefit. Hmm.

They put stress on the joints because of added momentum. It's a good way to screw up your knees, badly.
