I'm new to this and after several failed attempts to get healthy for myself I realize I need as much motivation and support as possible.

It has to come from within.

Pick a goal, something you really, really want! For me, I want to run a half marathon, and I've signed up for one in October. I'm running it with a friend who is a fast runner. For me to not drag her down, I need to lose about 20 lbs. That's motivation enough for me to stick with eating at a deficit, and training to be able to run that much. Also, it's kind of terrifying and exhilarating. I'm already telling her that when we're don't this one I want to start training for a full marathon. But that's what excites me.

Maybe find something that excites you, something active!

No one can do this for you but you. Each indivual person has something that will genuinely motivate them to make meaningful change in their life. If you're not already doing what you said you would, then you're not ready.

Find out what drives you, or buckle down and have some discipline to get what you want.

Enlist the help of a trainer or a detailed fitness plan and just do it! Once you see legit results I bet you'll be motivated to keep going

I'm on a mission to change this board from motivation to determination. Lots of people get started, but it seems like few stick with it.

I was reading something about treating insomnia. It had a couple of lines about overcoming discouragement. I think- bingo- weight loss. People are wrecked by discouragement. And it happens in our own brains.

One thing I read somewhere helped me- The fact that I have not been successful in losing weight before has nothing to do with this time. The past does not control the future.

This is part of my problem. I was motivated to exercise until March 2017 when I started with back/hip problems. It curtailed my daily walking. Not anymore. I started last week and have been increasing it every couple of days. I have 2 granddaughters to look after. I've done the logging part and that helped me lose 40 lbs but 25 of them are back.
