Beginning Kung Fu/Jiujitsu/Tae Kwon Do? Weight Loss?

Anybody try Beginning Kung Fu/Jiujitsu/Tae Kwon Do to help with weight loss? I am thinking about taking a class this fall.
I never any type of martial arts before and I am kind of nervous. I am a "FLUFFY" dude and I am worried :blushing:

Martial arts in addition to weight lifting do you think it will be overkill?

  • Well, since no one has answered yet...

I work at a rec center and I've seen some bigger guys start in martial arts. Some quit within a week, some made amazing transformations. If your heart is in it, you will do great. The first couple of days will hurt like hell, just push through and it will get easier. Best of luck :-)

I have been in Tae Kwon Do for over 6 years. I am a 2nd degree black belt now. I love it. I think that if I had watched my diet like I am now I would have lost more weight in the beginning. However, what Tae Kwon Do has done for me is that it has given me the confidence to try anything and the perseverance to keep at it. I would suggest finding a program that encourages all different levels. Our Tae Kwon Do school is a family school and it is about our personal journey. We have students from 6 to 72. We all do the best that we can and that is what they ask of us. Good Luck and Pil Sung (which means certain victory!)
