Hi Brenda, don't get discouraged, we all go through this. Anytime I see the scale start creeping up I try to give myself a reset and create a new set-point. Whatever weight you are now, pretend you are just starting again and do all the things you did before you gained the 17 pounds. Ease back into if you have to, go for walks, start measuring your food and once you begin to see results again you will get motivated.

The key is to forget you gained 17 pounds, if you can do that and clear your mind to start fresh, you will be successful, has worked for me a number of times. Remember, if you are committed to this lifestyle this is not a short-term goal but truly a lifestyle change and you will have bumps in the road the entire way, key is to recognize when you are falling off, refocus, forget the past and continue to move forward. I wish you the best of luck.

You did it once so you have the game plan that works for you. As JJS said start off slow doing something you know you can do easily. One success leads to another and that is where the motivation comes from.

Ok. You're down 13 lbs, congrats on the loss.

Question- was your program too aggressive to stick with long term? Is this why its hard to go back?

The past is over. It no longer exists. Today is day 1. Calculate a livable moderate calorie deficit and plan a menu. Start logging your food. Weigh and measure when at home. Find a way (or ways) to be more active.

Put everything you eat or drink in your food journal. Mistakes, lapses, miscalculations. Eating too much is not a reason to abandon your journal.

Summon some determination. It's there. Everyone living has it. Motivation is fleeting. Have a good talk with yourself about how you're going to cope with feeling discouraged. It will happen. Good luck.
