can someone please let me know how to calculate TDEE? i have found 3 websites and input the exact same information into all of them and my range is anywhere from 2046 to 2300. that seems very broad.

Ultimately, you'll have to experiment and figure out your TDEE for yourself. Online calculators are just a guesstimate based on a mathmatical formula. Start with the lower number. If you aren't reaching your goal (losing, gaining or maintaining), then adjust from there.

All that being said, the closest website to my actual TDEE was scoobysworkshop.com.

thank you. i am trying to lose weight, and gained 6 lbs in the past week and it's driving me crazy. i work-out every day, both HIIT and cardio elliptical and weight lifting and eating at a deficit. i thought i would try to research more in TDEE. thanks for the info.

Is the exercise new? If it is, your muscles are retaining water to repair themselves. Don't sweat it.

    quiksylver:
i have been doing my HIIT routine for about 2 weeks, and have been weight lifting since beginning of april, so a bit over 2 months. i lost 60 lbs in 2012, then got pregnant. i had a horrible pregnancy, gained about 20 lbs, my baby had trisomy 18 & 21, and she died in 2nd trimester. i ended up needing surgery and a hysterectomy. ever since then, i cannot lose weight, and in fact have gained all the weight i had lost and then some. my dr diagnosed me with 2 forms of arthritis and some issues with thyroid, but have been on meds since november for both of those issues. i weigh 182 right now, was down to 125 at goal weight in 2012. i have been eating at a deficit since last july, so a full year and only lost from 200 down to 182. i am going to study the chart you posted. THANK YOU

Unless you have binge eaten every day, you haven't gained 6lbs of fat in a week.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. Concentrate on taking care of you. It's good to hear you are following up with your doctor. Be patient and love yourself.

I did the same thing and currently on the average of the 3 estimates and then will reassess in 4 weeks to see how it's going. I'm trying to gain thought so different to your circumstances.

that's a good idea. I think I will find an average and stick for a month and see how it goes and reevaluate. thanks

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. That is terrible. Take care of yourself. The new HIIT may be causing the stall. I actually just added some HIIT to my weight training two weeks ago and am seeing a stall on the scale as well.

OP I'm so sorry for what you went through, I can't imagine how hard that must have been and must still be.

To your original question, I agree with others it's extremely unlikely that you gained actual weight in that short of a time period but it is very likely that you are experiencing normal weight fluctuations due to water retention which could be from hormonal changes, new or more intense exercise (as mentioned), high sodium or high carb foods, or stress (also sounds like something you might be experiencing lately).

I also agree that the best estimate of TDEE comes from your own results and derived from the calculation of how many calories you're taking in and how much weight you are losing over a set time period, aside from anomalies like this week. But Scooby is a good number to have in mind as well.

    Best of luck.
