Can someone tell me the best way to get calories for mashed potatoes? I'm currently using measuring cups, or should I stick to scales? If scales what kind of calories are in them per 100g

Mashed potatoes from instant mash or actual potatoes?

If instant find the entry for the brand you're using and weigh it out. If you can't find the brand add it using the info on the packet.

If it's from scratch, log the potatoes by weight (USDA is good option if you can't find the brand/shop you bought from) and any extras you put in such as butter or cream.

Also if it's from scratch weigh the potatoes before you cook them and after you skin them (unless you're boiling them skins on) rather than after they've been cooked.

Nobody is going to be able to tell you just from the weight because we don't know how much of each ingredient that you used. Some people, for example, use a lot more fat in their potatoes and that will change the calories. Use the Recipe Builder, input the weight of each ingredient used, and go from there.

Yes, this is what I do. If you skin them, use the entry without skins. Then add the butter or milk or whatever else you add separately. If you make a lot for the family, make a recipe, weigh the whole, and then weigh the amount you take to get your portion.

Or, if you have a good eye (this is admittedly what I normally do, but I don't have mashed potatoes that often), take, say, one fourth of the total and log .25 of the total potatoes, and the various things added.

If it's just for you or you are having half, it's super easy.
