Handling July 4 parties

I have a 4th of July party to go to. I don't like to waste food so I will just take small portions of stuff and I can go back later and take more of what I really like. You should not waste/waist the calories by eating something you really do not like. Sometimes I will actually spit out the food because it doesn't taste good; try to be discreet into a napkin. And place a napkin on top of your plate and get up and throw right into garbage if you do not want anyone to see. Remember, you are number one, your health and your mental state. You can always say to those dthat insist - I will have some later. Or you are full, maybe later. I was gonna say that if they are serving something like hot dogs and hamburgers - maybe only eat half the bun or none at all so you can indulge in side dishes or desserts.

You certainly don't have to announce, "I'M THROWING AWAY THIS PIE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T TASTE GOOD,"
But it would definitely liven up the party if you did!
You would be interesting enough to me to warrant talking with after that.

I have said I didn't like something to people. What is wrong with telling them you didn't enjoy something?
Why is it better to mislead them? If they ask you to try it then they are soliciting your opinion, eh?

Maybe they have been thinking it was great for years because no one said otherwise but should have...

    Just something to think about.

I go to a lot of summer time BBQs and pool parties. I don't feel some obligation to eat all of the food. I enjoy the social aspect and eat a reasonable amount of food. In most cases, there are always options ranging from pretty solid nutritionally speaking to not so much. Whether I choose to indulge a bit in a "not so much" choice would depend very much on what it is.

Beyond that, if I know I'm going to a party, I work my day around that event...smaller breakfast or skip it all together...small lunch, etc.

I also find myself pretty active at these parties...lots of swimming and throwing the kids around in the pool, frisbee, etc...IDK, I go to a lot of these things and it's never hindered my weight loss or maintenance to any significant extent.
