When I enter the number of minutes I exercise, do I include the number of resting minutes between each exercise set? Of the 50 total minutes I exercise, which includes 20 minutes of rest, do I enter 50 or 30 mintues?

I always enter the total as the rest periods are still part of the training, I may be wrong but I'm sure someone with more know will correct me if I am.0

It depends. Since you're really after the number of calories burned. Calories burned has a lot to do with what your heart is doing. This means that if you do a really intense 1 minute, it'll take 2 minutes or so for your heart to slow down, about the same as 3 minutes average work without rest.
What this means is, it doesn't matter what you put in, the number of calories you guess will be wrong anyhow, unless you have a heart rate monitor, and then it'll be less wrong
Over time, and a bit of internet sleuthing, you'll find out what the approximate calorie burn for whichever exercise you're doing is.0 -
Just as important, it depends on whatever the criteria were of whoever entered it into the MFP database. I usually enter 30 min for a workout that might take 45 with rest breaks. Part of that is being conservative with burn instead of going with the "eat back half of exercise calories" idea (I also use moderate biking and swimming even though it's more intense). Best bet is to Google for something where you know the criteria used and enter that in your own exercise diary.0

I include the rest breaks.0

I include rests bet sets (which are shorter) but not rests bet lifts (which are longer).
I also only allocate 120 cals per hour for lifting, which is a very low rate that reduces the likelihood of overstating the cal burn and eating excess cals as a result.0
