I feel like pliates should burn more calories than yoga but according to this app they burn the same amount, 108 calories for 30 minutes

I think it's one of the rare "too low" estimates on MFP. I take a Pilates class every Monday and also scoff at it awarding the same calories as a moderate Yoga class. It gave me 180 calories or something for 60 minutes. Maybe they're using the "Senior" type class for the estimate.
Even more interesting... I played an hour of Petanque with the family this weekend (like Bocce, but slower with heavier balls) and MFP awarded me MORE calories than my Pilates class. Now I know it's way off. Petanque is mostly standing and occasionally tossing a ball.1 -
The intensity of pilates and yoga classes can vary a lot. Personally I just log what the app says but only eat back the calories that I feel like I need back.2

i don't think pilates or yoga are big calorie burners, i wouldn't even log them.

I definitely log and eat them. If you're doing the class right, you're dripping with sweat. PiYo is one that's not in the database and I never know what to put since it's high-speed Pilates and Yoga made into cardio. I guess it's aerobics if it's fast with or without the strength elements.1

Sweat doesnt = calories burnt2 -
i can stand in the sun and sweat, and burn zero calories.3

Yes, I know that. For me it gages effort because I don't typically get hot until it's too late. But with exercise... I'm measuring exertion which does burn calories. Since I take instructed classes, it's easier to note changes in exertion and punch up your level. But I do have some sort of issue with sweating regarding exercise. I'm dripping and slipping in puddles within moments. Sometimes I start sweating as soon as it's time for class even if I haven't started yet. But with everything else, I'm the coldest person in the room.1 -
Personally, I agree Pilates and Yoga are not big calorie burners. HOWEVER, the strength/muscle isolation has huge benefits.
I am a firm believer in cardio, weight or body weight and yoga/Pilates. Room for all three in overall fitness.5 -

Personally, being the little older woman who lost on an appropriate 1200, and then got 1200 for maintenance, not counting my yoga or Pilates class calories would have had me burnt out in 6-8 weeks. They may have only been 175 per hr, but they were 175 calories that my body needed.
Same with lifting calories.
I was 5 years into a well established maintenance when I decided to lift. I paid heed to all the posters that say lifting burns so few calories it isn't worth counting them, so I didn't. My weight dropped, and my energy levels were sloth like. It took a couple of months to get my weight back where I like it, and just as long to get my energy levels up.
I think context matters in these things and sweeping statements can be misleading. 100cals per 30 min may not be worth counting if you have around 2000 cals a day but, when it is 1200 those extra cals are needed.
Cheers, h.
Sorry sonyacele. That wasn't having a go at you, it was just letting people know that even though these aren't big burns, sometimes those extra cals are needed. h.2 -

Thanks heaps, @middlehaitch I'm in maintenance, and on an injury break from running, so my yoga and Body Balance calories are important to me.2
