What's a good beginner's guide to free weights?

Hey all.
So I've just recently gotten back into the swing of things at the gym, and I am interested in strength training.. I'm pretty well versed in the use of machines and am interested in switching up my routine with free weights. Unfortunately, Google doesn't seem to be giving me great advice as to how to begin using free weights/ free weight work outs. I don't just want to leap into it without any information, so does anyone have some tips, tricks or example workouts for someone wanting to begin free weights? It'd be much appreciated.
Thank you!
