Wasn't sure where to put this but it's kind of related to cycling so here goes . . .

Can anyone recommend a sat-nav type app thing (android) for cyclists? I want to start getting out of my usual routes and do something a bit different but I hate to keep stopping to look at a map. One with a voice would be great as once I'm cycling, I like to just keep on going :)

Thanks, guys!

What type of features are you looking for, and are you riding on the streets or trails? I think at some point many looking for good maps go to biking specific computers for easier routing and such, but some are using more conventional apps such as Google Maps and similar.

Here and there I will explore some new roads and just use Google to find the quickest route home, then possible stray from that route to explore more roads I've never ridden. In my case I'm familiar enough with the major roads in the areas I ride that it works for me, but it may be trickier out of my familiar area.

In any case, the quickest route on a conventional maps program will take you to your starting point. You also have download options in the case of bad GPS signal.

Just basic stuff really, nothing too glamorous as I'm a bit of a technophobe and scare easily (and manage to break everything, staff in the shops dread me approaching their checkouts as I've put loads of chip and pin machines out of action). I just want something that'll guide me to a destination (or get me home again if I wander and get lost).

I'm a road cyclist, I don't use trails at all any more :(

Just turn right at the next intersection. :)

If you get lost, that just adds to the fun!!

I sometimes use an app called RunGo to guide me when running in unfamiliar areas. It does turn by turn for predefined courses (you have to enter them in on their website). I'm not sure how it would work on my bike since it may be difficult to hear.
