I'm trying to figure out how much I'll weigh at the end of December of this year. I've lost 12 pounds so far and I started my weight loss journey on May 29th of this year. If you can safely lose 2 pounds a week how much is that by December? I'm 5'9 and my final goal weight is to be at 130 pounds but I know I won't be at 130 pounds by December.

How long is a piece of string? If I could answer that, I'd be looking up next week's lotto numbers ;)

OP changed the question...that's kind of cheating after people have answered.

How much weight do you have left to lose, OP? Maybe it would help to just set a realistic goal that you'd like to see by that time and aim for that.

You want to know if you can be to your ideal weight. You can be. I went from 265 to 200lbs in 7 months. That put me < 15% bodyfat and fairly fit. If you weigh 221 today, you can be 150-160 if you do it right. Eat healthy, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables. Be active. lift weights, do HIIT cardio. Don't eat garbage food. Cook your meals. When your hungry eat. But eat healthy food.

A very easy goal is to lose 1lb a week, that's 26ish you can lose if you do it just mostly right. If you really get after it, then you can exceed it. It all comes down to how well you're eating.

That is unlikely to happen. Not sure how tall you are but I'll guess you will downgrade your deficit to around 1.5 lbs after the next 20-25 and then switch to 1 lb by 170-175 and possibly a half pound by 145-150.

29 weeks till end of December. Math says 2 lbs a week x29 weeks =58 lbs down
    221-58=163
    163 is above 130
So no you are unlikely to be 130 by end of year.
Even 2 lbs a week is unrealistic for the whole time so I would view 175 more realistic goal.

However , if you don't diet you are likely to be 221 or even more at the end of the year.
So keep plugging. Time will pass we can make ourselves better off or worse off but the time will still pass.

There are 26 weeks left in the year, but you certainly won't be able to continue to lose at a 2lb per week clip all the way through. As you get closer to your target weight, your losses will slow.

Couple of thoughts here. First, a person can only safely sustain a loss of 2 lbs/week as long as they have the current body mass to support it. At some point, that will no longer be true. As a previous poster mentioned, your weekly weight loss goal should change as you lose weight. Generally, with <25 lbs to lose, .5 lb/week; 25-50, 1 lb/week; 50-75, 1.5 lbs/week; 75+, 2 lbs/week. Second, being 5'9" myself, I think your goal of 130 is unrealistic, or at least unnecessary. It is the lowest BMI in the healthy category. The last time I was 130, I was 16 or so and had bones sticking out everywhere. 150 would put you in the middle of the healthy range and is much more realistic for an adult. But that's thinking too far ahead anyway- you may very well change your mind about your goals as you go along. Maybe just focus on where you'd like to be by the end of summer.

The only thing is you may not lose 2lbs every week. I started in January at 290 I am currently 246 so down 44lbs in 6 months this is with going up a few weeks a holiday etc. I would set yourself smaller goals instead if trying to figure what you'll be at Christmas. Sometimes I lose 4lbs sometimes 2 or 1 or none.
Ideally at Christmas I would like to be as close to the 200 mark as possible but I know it's not guaranteed.

Just take it slow and steady and you'll win in the end
