Going Vegan ?

Actually, saying you're plant based doesn't automatically mean you've completely eliminated animal products from your diet, just that the majority of your food is from plants. I eat a mostly whole foods, plant based diet for the possible long term health benefits, but I'm not a vegetarian because I still eat a bit of fish and beef. However, since 90+ percent of my diet is plant foods the label plant based would be appropriate. But, even if I eliminated all animal products from my diet it would never be appropriate for me to label myself a vegan. The term vegan means a very specific thing and diet is only a small part of that.
Another label that's more popular for a plant based diet is Flexitarian-one who mostly eats plant based foods but still includes a bit of animal products.

well I don't know how else I could have wrote more clearly that " I am planet based" and "I am cutting meat, egg, diaries, and even fish"!!! I also mentioned "I am not following any philosophy"… if only you did take the time to read my question instead of trying to correct my ignorance about my lack of knowledge on planet based! vegan and vegetarian … this whole post would be unnecessary no? I just wanted some diet guild line that some kind friends provide really helpful links .0 -

Your title and first post uses the word vegan several times, which is what's causing the confusion.
Anyways, a good resource is Dr. Joel Fuhrman. He has several books out and Eat to Live is a good one to start with. He advocates a mostly whole foods, plant based diet for the potential health benefits and his plan is pretty simple to follow. My avatar picture is actually of his food pyramid and it's what I use to put my food plan together.0 -
I am vegan and what people say about protein is totally true. I have actually gained weight since becoming vegan. It's hard to get as much protein but if you pick your supplements/protein shakes wisely then you might be ok. I'm not going to debate whether being vegan is healthier or whatever, I'm not a doctor. But I do know it takes a hell of a lot of planning because you can't just have chicken and a salad or fish and veggies. It's a very carb heavy diet and most "fit" vegans do a *kitten* ton of cardio.0

If you build your meals around high quality sources of protein (beans, tofu, tempeh, and seitan are good examples), it's not that difficult to meet your protein needs without any protein powders.2 -

I have been vegan for ten years. I'm 37 years old, still get carded fairly often, and I hit a personal best in the half marathon yesterday. (Note: I don't think this has anything to do with veganism, I got great genes from my mother).
But keep on with the reckless stereotyping. It's about as accurate as when vegans talk about how all non-vegans will get fat and die of cancer.7 -
