Back pain - DOMS or worse?

As well as cardio, I'm doing a very general and basic home work out with light weights (crunches, squats, bridges, lunges, planks, arm/shoulder exercises etc.).

For a day or 2 after I do my home exercises, I get back pain. I don't have the money to go to a personal trainer or anything to check if I'm doing these exercises 100% right, but I think I have the right posture etc. and they're only simple exercises with light weights.

To give you a bit of background, I have previously been in a car crash a couple of years ago that left me with whiplash. The physiotherapist I was seeing after said I had very weak back muscles, and that I definitely needed to work on them to get stronger (not good - I know!).

Is this pain likely just DOMs due to my weak back muscles, or do you think I have anything to worry about?

Sorry if this is a silly question - I'm very much a beginner when it comes to strength exercises!

When I started doing yoga at home, I'd video myself doing poses. That way I could watch them myself and compare them to the pros doing the same move and see if I was getting it right. Or you could always post here and ask the gurus :)

That's not a bad idea. Bit cringey to begin with I imagine, but it's important! :)

I would see a physio to get some strengthening exercises for your back.

I think because you've had a history of back injuries I think you're safer speaking to a medical professional, no-one on here will be able to tell you which it is. x

My experience from my own back pain (torn up from multiple car crashes and work injuries) is the pain is exacerbated by sit-ups and crunches and totally disappeared once I got my deadlifts to my body weight. Now it's only achy if I sit too long.

My (non medical, non trainer) opinion is you have a weak back. Check out the web site http://exrx.net and look at their weight and muscle directory for back exercises. The variety of them - both weighted and bodyweight-only - is astounding.
