This 1200 Calorie Thing

Okay. I'm new to this. I've read through thread after thread regarding maintaining a min of 1200 calories a day to lose weight. Here's what I don't understand, does that work for anyone, as in whether you are 250 lbs or 150 lbs... is that all it takes or do you adjust that number as you go down? I really think I need the "For Dummies" answer on this, I just don't get it.

Go with the number MFP gives you. 1200 is the bare minimum and it's not advised to go under it for healthy weight loss unless you're under the supervision of a doctor. What works is a calorie deficit. So for example my number is 2150 calories a day, and I end up eating anywhere between 1600-1800 on most days which has helped me lose 13 pounds so far. It's going to be a slightly different number for everyone depending on all sorts of factors, which is why it's important to figure out what your number is.1
