Has any one tried the ketogenic diet? What supplements are you taking and how hard was the first week or so?

I personally take a daily multivitamin, and my doctor perscibed vitamin D and more calcium. I also take a magnesium and B complex as well because I'm prone to headaches. But starting out, like mentioned above, chicken or beef broth helps a lot or you can add just a tiny bit of salt to your water. Drink lots of water in general.0

what ? no. I just eat food that is low in carbohydrate.
I have supplmented Vit D in the winter months Oct-Mar as there's nothing in the sun at these latitudes. Dabbled with other tthings occasionally but nothing of any duration / consistency. Eat a nutrient rich diet and suppplements become an unnecessary expense and hassle.1 -

Just make sure you are doing keto for the right reasons. If you think it's magic and will cause greater fat loss than any other diet that creates the same caloric deficit, then I'd say rethink your plan. If, on the other hand, you think it might be a good way to keep you satiated and help you stay compliant then by all means give it a go. For supplements you essentially only want to supplement things you'll be deficient in from your dietary modification. Examine the foods you'll be eating and see what, if any, vitamins and minerals you'll not be getting the recommended amounts of.6

Ketoer here who likes to drink and lift weights(not at the same time). I very much dislike keto flu so..... i take a calcium, magnum, zinc with d3, i take an omega, flax, borage capsule to cover my omegas just in case. I also supplement with an occasional zipfizz or eco drink in a very large container of water to cover other things like b vits.. yada yada. I totally use salt and mortons lite salt for potassium replenishment which seems to cover the potential muscle cramping. Why do i do all this!?! Because even though i try to eat diverse while ketoing...i tend to eat the same things often. Spinach, broccoli , asparagus and mushrooms are only gonna provide so much as far as micronutrients. Aside from reduced strength when i lift... I've felt great. I'm sleeping better (which is HUGE) my anxiety and depression are minute, my energy is up up up, i don't feel crazy hungry ever and the mental clarity that is coming with this way of eating is just rad!!! The weight loss even after water weight loss is added bonus. Weight loss may have been a big driving factor but all these other symptoms of eating this way have actually become a more important driving force for me!!! Good luck and KETO ON!2

I've been doping it for most of the last couple of years. I enjoy it. It works well for me.
I made my first couple of weeks harder than it needed to be. I couldn't believe that we need 3000-5000mg of sodium per day, and possibly extra K and Mg. I had fatigue headaches, and eventually muscle cramps. Once I added a teaspoon of salt to my water I was fine withing 12 hours.... Kicking myself for not having upped my sodium earlier.
I just cut carbs. To start I went with low carb for about 2 weeks and then cut it to about 20g/day. No extra liquids.0
