hello. normally im living in a house so it really didnt matter. Now im living in an Apartment in Japan. No one wears shoes in their homes for whatever reason. Anyway, The other part of that is living in an Apartment and that means, downstairs neighbors.
I want to get back to doing my home workout DVDs but here is the issue:
1. No carpet (carpet that i can put in is the kind that moves when you step on it.)-So...NO
2. I have "hardwood" floors...but they arent like american hardwood...they can be more sensitive.
3. Cant workout barefoot because of not only stability issues but also because i sweat...and my feet will slip alot from it.
So...my question is. Is there a soft sole shoe that i can wear for grip while jumping around but also not loud or hard impact on the floor? They will only be used in the apartment so i dont think there will be a issue wearing them inside....Not that i care what they think....I pay my own rent
I was thinking about getting Vibram FiveFingers Unisex Furoshiki. They seem like they have a soft impact bottom. I ordered something like those from a link on FB but its been over 2 months...i dont think ill be getting them...ever. I heard from reviews that quality is bad but also people love them...BUT...I have not seen a review of people doing home workouts where you have to jump and move around like P90X or Insanity.
Any Ideas or experiences??

I like my nike free flyknit running shoes...super flexible. I workout barefoot at home. Could you find a rubber backed carpet runner or order a piece of rubber flooring? Neither need installation...1

I had the same issue as you except I overcame the problem not by footware but floor mat. Not just those yoga floor mat but my baby boy's abc floor mat. It's mostly silicon so it's provide more soft landing than any footware that I had. It's about 7 by 4. I can do push up and sit but without worrying going out of bound. Did I mention it's soft and comfy? Just imagine it as puzzling 4 yoga mat together but double the thickness.2

What about grippy socks? I think you can get ones designed for yoga - they might work?1

For the ankle stability issues, maybe you could use ace ankle braces? And I"m going to second using either a mat (which would be my preference) or grippy socks ( @livingleanlivingclean - I thought I was the only one who called them that.... I wonder what their actual name is.... )
Or, you could just wear your shoes during your workouts and talk with your downstairs neighbors about it.0 -
Also - in the US we have giant 'block pads' that are soft and used for childrens play floors. Perhaps you could put those down?
Like these: https://www.amazon.com/POCO-DIVO-Multi-Color-Exercise-Playmat/dp/B00PZZFABE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1499597087&sr=8-30 -
I wonder if you will get away with anything more than push ups and sit ups, for which you need a mat.
If you start jumping around in a creaky place, you will certainly disturb the neighbors. Better to take up jogging or join a gym.
Anyway, for all gym exercises except the treadmill I use a pair of ultra lightweight sneakers, maybe similar to what you're mentioning.0
