Suggestions to improve stamina (running)

Quick question -

Can anyone suggest foods, fluids and/or other methods which will improve the speed and stamina which would make me faster and further at running?

    Unless I'm running for more than 45 minutes I don't feel the need to eat before hand. If you do, carbs will probably be most helpful. Fruit or junk food. I like pop tarts before long runs.
