Hi all-
I have a bit of a good dilemma. I am about 3 lbs from my goal weight but have started to weight train in an effort to tone up. Would you wait to buy new clothes? If so, how long? I have no idea how much bodies typically change with weight training. Vague i know lol. I guess im looking for personal experiences. For reference, I started at 165 lbs in april and am currently 138. Goal is 135 or so. My clothes are pretty large on me.
Eta: im 5'6"

It'll take years to develop a physique that would drastically change your size all else equal. You're fine to buy clothes now, especially if they're already too large for you.1

Losing 3lbs is not likely to make that much difference, even if you retain mostly muscle as you lose. However I would probably wait to buy pants to be on the safer side, especially if they are tighter fitting.
I still fit into most of my clothes from last summer. But I bulked so I am 7lbs heavier, similar bodyfat % but most of my pants and shorts don't fit because of the booty and leg gains0 -
I am 55 and I only lift for fitness and maybe a little tone. The problem is if you get into it and bulk up then suits and other clothes stop fitting, what a pain. I lost 55 pounds and had to buy all new clothes. Now that I put 20 back on they are starting to get tight so I am upping my running and lowering my beer intake until I hit my target.0

I'm just under 5'7 and started at 172.5 down to 142 now (my goal is also around 135lb). I was very thin previously, so I have an idea of range. If you are 138 now you may find a Junior's Size 5 is best or regular "small" in tops and pjs. Unless you're busty or very curvy. Right now I'm wearing Size 6 but it's pretty loose with Smalls in tanks and underwear. Sport bras I stay at Medium to be safe (34 B bust). When I was *previously* 135lb I wore a Size 5, so that's probably your safest bet. You may need a Size 3 if you get below 129lbs or so. Depends on your curves, but right now you'd be safe in a Size 4 to 6 & Smalls depending on the brand/cut.0
