Hey all!
So if an Aussie guy, muah, was to travel to the States, what is your advice on where he should go, what he should see and why?
Thanks

That's pretty loaded...the US is huge and very diverse in climate, topography, culture, etc. Would need more specific interests...

It's a big country. What are you looking for? Iowa does have something for everyone. They are called "exits".

Ha ha sounds like the place not to be

How much time do you have and what are you interested in? Every little burg has a Convention and Visitor's Bureau or some such government agency designed to promote their burg to visitors.

These seem like pretty popular places to visit:

California: Los Angeles and San Francisco. Maybe some beachside towns
    New York: New York City
    Florida: Miami
    Nevada: Las Vegas

We drove from Vegas to San Francisco, via Yosemite, down the coast to LA stopping at places along the way before stopping at Santa Monica. It was a beautiful drive and a great way to see that bit of the country.
Also spent a week in NYC, which was enough time but also not enough time (sounds stupid, but we were exhausted!).

They were great places! Everywhere is unique though, and there are so many more places to see.... It would depend on what you're in to.

St. Augustine is the oldest continuously settled city in the United States. Good place to start.

Definitely biased here, but in that big city list... I couldn't believe our beautiful Philadelphia wasn't included. Come on! Liberty Bell? Constitution Hall? :o

OK okay.. more like... awesome pubs, clubs, and arts... lots of Beer Gartens and outdoor events/cultural events, cool museums, and one of the few very large cities in the US that's still full of its original charm and landmarks. And if you're near Philly, might as well swoop up to the Pocono Mountains and enjoy the Resorts, Spas, and Casinos, too. And nature.

I am Canadian and am going to the US in the next couple of weeks to see the north part of the east coast. I will let you know if there is anything awesome to see from a completely "new to me" perspective! I am so excited!

The US is the only place I have been to outside of Canada.

My favourite places were San Francisco and Monterey California. A fun, laid back atmosphere in both places. "To see" destinations...The coast highway...and if you go do stop at random places and the small towns and walk around.

I have been to Texas in the winter. It snowed, which I wasn't expecting. It was beautiful, the landscape seemed very wide open...vast.

I have been to Florida in the summer (I can't even describe the heat and humidity, like nothing I've ever experienced before) but I had a lot of fun and it was beautiful.

I have been across the border at Niagara Falls to New York state, great shopping there.

And the Mutter Museum! I love that. I think I might go there this weekend.

But there is no place like New York City

Yes, the Grand Canyon - definitely! I would also suggest New Orleans for a unique and awesome experience, as well as San Francisco and New York City.
