Getting Toned

Should I be trying to tone up while losing weight, or should i lose the weight and then tone up? I don't want to get muscular and build up lots of muscle, it's not the look I want for myself just some muscle definition. Should I be using smaller weights with more reps or heavier weights with less reps to achieve this?

You should start resistance/weight training NOW while you lose. Lifting while losing weight is going to preserve the muscle you have now and have positive affects on your body composition. Can you build muscle in a deficit? Maybe but not a significant amount.. I definitely wouldn't worry about it making you bulky. I have run two bulk cycles to deliberately put on muscle and still I am still not very bulky (although I am muscular.. however this didn't happen by accident).
I would lift according to an established program and increase weights/reps with proper form as you progress. You can also do bodyweight workouts if you don't have access to a gym, but again the key is to progress and stimulate the muscles to help them stay vs. go with weight loss.5 -
If you are dieting and working out you will naturally start to see a physical difference and start to see some increase in tone. It also depends on how toned or ripped or whatever you want to call it you want to get. You want to build muscle which will help to increase your metabolism and naturally make you burn more calories which will in turn keep you lean and strong. Keep changing your routines up and keep that muscle confusion going and you will see better results. Best of luck!!!2

not to worry...no one "builds up lots of muscle" by accident....2
