I've been up and down my whole life. I am now a whooping 280 lbs. After 3 children I am ready to reach a goal of healthiness don't have a real set number. But definitely would like to reach 180. By my birthday March 2017. Any advice helps.

    Hi!

I've found that when I try to make too many changes at once I fail after a few months. I find that I spent a month just religiously tracking my food and exercise - not feeling guilty about how bad it all is; then the next month I set a goal based on the last months info.

I think it's all about what is easiest for you to follow and focusing on your plan rather than the weight. (Some months I lost weight the first week and gained more the week after just to go on to losing again for the rest of the month.)

    Hope this helps

I've lost 150+ in 11 months on Ideal Protein. Being in ketosis was the game changer for me. And I didn't need to exercise so I could just focus on the food.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Exactly. Do what works for YOU. For me, what works is doing the daily diary EVERY SINGLE DAY. I know this from past experiences where I lost quite a bit, got bored, ignored MFP for awhile and went right back up to the 280s.

Figure out what your daily calorie allowance should be and then stick to it. You can change WHAT you eat or not. That's wholly up to you. The previous comment is a ketosis fan but that needn't be what you choose. The most important factor in weight loss is that you consume fewer calories than you burn. Do that over the long haul and you WILL lose weight.

I am logging everything and will use that info for next month when I try to move from counting just the calories to trying to hit certain macros. I do log and exercise with the intent of losing weight right from the start, but I agree with doing too much at once might feel overwhelming. If you are completely new to this, then allowing yourself a week or two (or more if you need it) to log what you normally want to eat and see what changes you can do to your existing diet before you make larger changes is a good idea. You will want to continue to eat what you enjoy to eat, and learning how to do that in moderation/within your calories is an important step in the process.

And while you technically don't have to do exercise, it does help a lot - not just with keeping your body strong, but you will get some more calories to eat too! With 3 children what whatever else you've got going on in your life it might be difficult to find the time, but even a 30 minute walk more than you do currently (with or without the kids) is a good start.

I too have 100lbs to lose (118lbs to be exact) but then I have a set number that I want to reach. Feel free to add me if you want!

Hi, I want to lose 100 lbs too. I too do very well the first few weeks, then I get bored/life happens and I go back to bad habits. I am 260 now, and I want to be 160. I used mfp before and it worked. Let's hope for success

I'm in the same boat! i get to lose around 100 lb. maybe support from others that are in the same boat will help. Any others in this group be interested in helping each other by following each other's progress, asking and answering each others questions, and so forth?
