Many people have a cheat meal once a week. I think a cheat day once a month would be fine if you're trying to lose weight. The thing about a cheat meal/day is that you have to be on point with your diet the other days! Make sure you are achieving your goals with your diet (losing weight, feeling OK, able to sleep, not hungry all the time) BEFORE you "cheat." I would also think about the activities you are planning (parties, holidays) and schedule cheat meals or days around them. (Thanksgiving, here I come!).
Can I also suggest not thinking about it as "cheating"? If you're trying to eat healthy, or become a more "normal" weight, people who are healthy or normal weights have days that they eat more and days they eat less. It's just part of life. So plan for it, enjoy it. We need to come up with a better word. A planned big calorie day or something . The abnormal eating is overeating every day for years as I have .5
