I just was thinking, do you count mowing as exercise? It sure feels like it...

Hell yes. Unless you're sitting on a riding mower and eat cake at the same time. Then, no.0

I use a Fitbit so it counts it for me. I have a big yard and I usually average over 10,000 steps while mowing.0
-
I count it, I wore my pedometer one time and found out due to the size of my yard I walk 5 miles while pushing a mower. Not part of my normal daily routine and I sure do work up a good sweat especially pushing the mower uphill.0
-
My wife does....so yes?0
-
I do! My hard is hilly and on the larger size. Plus my mower is not self-propelled!0
-
Yep... I just mowed about a quarter of my yard and it was a workout... I was drenched, time to rehydrate.0

If you can count this you can count anything....
XXXXXXXXXX burned 60 calories doing 6 minutes of smoking (cigarette) 1 min = 1 cigarette

I never thought I would see something top food prep and fishing on a river bank on the list of the craziest things I've ever seen logged.0 -
depends on what your mowing0
-
yes it does for sure0
-
I can't with a good conscience consider it as a 'workout', even though you re moving etc...0
-
If it feels like a workout, sure. If you get your heart rate up and break a sweat then log it. You certainly burned more calories than you would have just sitting around doing nothing. I'd probably under-estimate though.0
-
Heck yes, I do! My lawn takes an hour and a half minimum to edge, mow and empty the bag.0
-
Yes...MFP's calorie goals are set very low. You should be logging all additonal movement.....gardening, housecleaning, etc.0

I lost almost 2 lbs this week push mowing almost an acre. My yard definitely gives me a workout.0 -
I wore my HRM once when mowing, and burned 1100+ cals. This was 1/2 acre with hills and the grass was knee high, but I wasn't going to let that get away.0

I have a hilly yard and a mower thats not self propelled so its a good 45 minute workout. I have my activity level set to active because I'm on my feet nonstop for 4 hours a day at work. If I mow on top of being at work on my feet for 4 hours (and usually the gym in the morning before that), then I'll log mowing the lawn. If I haven't been at work, I don't log the mowing--I figure that even things out for not being as active at work. I was rounding down the calories burned when I used mfp's database, now I finally have a hrm.0

YARD..not hard....where is my mind at tonight?0 -
I count it but don't use it towards it towards eating back calories0
-
Heck yes!!! It takes me 2-3 hours to use a push mower and we have a hilly back yard...I burn between 900-1200 calories! (And I feel it!)0

I don't know why, but I found this really funny. I decided to count it even though I feel it looks weird when it says for my exercise " mowing lawn, general" ha, but thanks for answering everyone!0 -
Yes.0
-
It's included in my "lightly active" setting, so I don't count it as extra exercise.0
-
If you don't think using a push mower is exercise, come to my house and mow my neighbor's and my own house (which I do weekly) and tell me after over 2 hours if you didn't get a workout and burn any calories!0
-
Yes, it is giving you a workout and you don't do it everyday!0
