Skipping breakfast for hearty dinner?

Hello,
I need some advice as its a weekly thing that i go to my mums for dinner and she tends to make something really unhealthy. Knowing that i will have a calorific dinner i skip breakfast. Do you think this is a good idea as i do meet my calorie intake this way and dont go over or is it not a good idea

Makes no difference when you eat your calories. One meal, 10 meals, whatever. Breakfast is not a necessity. Sounds like a reasonable plan to keep your calories in check.6

Many follow this as a regular plan... it's called intermittent fasting. Doesn't matter when you eat your calories- whatever works for you..5

It's perfectly fine. I do this as well. I would just make sure that skipping breakfast doesn't cause you to become super hungry, so that you over eat later in the day. I have no problem skipping breakfast, but I do know that if I wait too long to eat, I am more likely to make bad choices.3

you are doing the right thing if you are trying to balance out that specific day. Another way would be to eat a lighter breakfast and other meals to make up for the extra calories from that bigger meal. For example if the big meal is 500 calories more than normal, you could have 100 calories less for 5 meals around it to even it out.
The timing wont matter in the long run, it will only matter if you eat in an excess and never burn it off ( gaining weight)0 -
As long as skipping that meal doesn't cause you to graze and overeat later on, you're fine2

If it works for you it is a fine idea. I usually eat about half of my calories for breakfast and lunch and the rest for dinner. On the weekends I usually have a lighter breakfast and lunch and an even bigger dinner. If you stay at your goal it doesn't matter when you eat your calories. But I wouldn't make myself miserable early in the day by totally skipping a meal I was hungry for.1

I usually eat like this. Or I'll have a little lunch and a big dinner with a drink.0

Meal timing /frequency does not matter for weight loss, and making room for higher calorie meals is a great strategy!0 -
yeah, I agree with the others. Meal timing isn't a big deal unless it leads you to graze/binge, but if it's weekly it's probably manageable. Especially if someone's cooking for you1

I have tried that when I am going to an event where I know I will probably eat a lot. It does not really work for me though. By the time I actually eat I am so hungry that I eat too much1

So I have always done this but I am way overweight. Going out to lunch - eat no breakfast or a light breakfast, same for dinner out or take-outs. But for me, I would still have to watch those portions because since I same my "carbs" for the meal out, I have to make sure I still don't go overboard on those carbs. Also for some people who are diabetic, they would be probably getting too much sugar/insulin with the one bigger meal. A dietician wanted me to have carbs at every meal. And wouldn't account for a bigger meal to enjoy.0

I do it every day because I enjoy eating a larger dinner with my family. It's my favorite meal. I just have coffee for breakfast. If you're used to breakfast, it may take a little while to get used to going without it, but you can totally change your body's expectation of when to expect food with a little bit of effort.
