If by weight training you mean strength training, i.e., your goal is to lift heavy, then I would use your post-workout drink to target any macro-nutrient deficiencies you regularly have. People new to strength training often have a problem getting enough protein in their regular meals, so a post-workout shake is a good way to bump up those protein grams where they're supposed to be.
Oh, and if you're using MFP to track your nutrition, don't forget to tweak your macro nutrient goals so you're getting enough protein. I try to get one gram of protein per pound of lean body mass, and then I have my over-all calorie goals. I personally don't worry too much about the carbs/fat ratios as long as my calories and protein are good, but if you have problems over-indulging on certain types of food, I suppose hitting your carb and fat goals could be important, too.
As for timing of your post-workout drink - it doesn't matter all that much. I don't like working out hard with a lot of food on my stomach, so I drink mine afterwards. But if exercise on a full stomach doesn't bother you, do it before, or after, or whenever it's convenient..0 -
the last thing you consume.....ever?
as long as you hit your calorie and protein macros by the end of each day I would really worry too much about it at this point. So I guess my answer is yes, it will do, if that's what you want to drink. But if you didn't drink it right after, you'll probably be okay too.
Whenever you choose to drink it, I just hope by "dash" of protein powder, you mean "scoop" or "two scoops".0 -
