Hey everyone
initial disclaimer: it's hard for me to post on forums as I've got borderline personality disorder and I have a hard time understanding people but I am working on it.
I've been doing TurboFire and it is so intense and I love it and I was thinking about actually joining a kickboxing gym in my area (it's $65/month for kickboxing classes, and all the exercise equipment) when I'm done with TurboFire, like just as a sport longer term
Does anybody have experience with this? I would like to hear about anyone's results with kickboxing regularly and if you liked your results with kickboxing or if you go to a kickboxing gym and have any information about it that you wanna share.
Thank you!
Mae

Hi Mae,
I started training Muay Thai and BJJ at a small martial arts gym about 10 months ago, and I absolutely LOVE it.
I train 5-6 days a week, I wasn't overweight when I started, but I've lost about 6kg, and I'm much more toned, especially my upper arms, shoulders and calves. I personally love how I look now.
I'm usually the only girl in my classes, but all the guys at my gym have been nothing but respectful and welcoming, I've made great friends and we have a good bit of banter as well.
It's hardcore cardio most of the time, and we're all quite competitive, but it's so much fun, especially sparring!
I started out training just for fitness, but I'm enjoying it so much that I plan on having a go at fighting once I'm good enough.
So far, I've had one BJJ competition and the next one planned for September, and I'll hopefully have my first Muay Thai interclub match soon.
It's been the most addictive thing I've done in my life!

That sounds great!!! I used to do Tae Kwon Do and I loved sparringkickboxing isn't really for actual fighting though, so there isn't any sparring or anything.

I used to take a kickboxing class. LOVED it! Only stopped because my schedule changed a bit and I couldn't fit it in anymore. It is a fantastic workout - great stress reducer. My gym had heavy bags so it wasn't just air jabs and we weren't punching eachother. Of course like any workout you get out of it what you put in, but if you put in the effort it is a great workout!1

I'm a member at Title Boxing Club, and their classes are like a cardio fitness class. Each gym is a little different since it's a franchise, but the schedule will probably have classes for boxing, kickboxing, or a combo class. An hour long class is typically a 15 minute warm up (jumping jacks, squats, lunges, etc.), 30 minutes of boxing/kickboxing combos that the instructor will demonstrate (usually 8 3-minute rounds on a heavy bag with a minute long active rest between rounds), and 15 minutes of core work (sit ups, planks, etc.). You won't be hitting or kicking other people, just the heavy bag. I think it is fun and great stress relief. The Title gyms in my area always have deals on GroupOn and Living Social. Maybe check around for a coupon to try out some classes.1

Oh cool that you bring that up because I called the Undisputed gym of pretty much all things fighting and stuff similar to it and they have a free first class and it's $65/month to have access to Kickboxing classes and some other fighting type classes and all the bags and they give you gloves tooI think I will do that once I'm done with TurboFire. Did you get good results doing Kickboxing regularly ?

Does anybody have experience just doing Kickboxing for workouts and not also lifting weights? I actually hate lifting weights and I'm hoping Kickboxing and cycling alone which I love will bring toned results too. I don't want to be skinny fat0

I don't do any lifting, but we usually do some bodyweight conditioning exercises, squats, push ups, burpees etc, during our classes, and I've definitely toned up a lot.1

I'm taking a ladies kickboxing class in a gym nearby and I really love it! What we do depends on the instructor for the day, but it's usually a good mix of cardio, floor exercises, and bag punching/kicking. It's a really good workout, but I know that Muay Thai is more intense if you are looking for that kind of option. I got a deal through groupon but after it ended I bought a membership because I really wanted to continue. You should check to see on groupon for deals so you can try to see if you like it. I think it'll be a fun experience!1

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! I have officially decided I will go for it and subscribe when TurboFire is complete.

I do 9Rounds Kickboxing. I look at it as my cardio since I hate the traditional cardio activities. I really like to hit and kick things and it has helped me get into better shape cardio wise. It does include some weights, on some days, but there are always some sort of body weight exercises with push ups and burpees, etc. I do their 3 days a week and I do traditional gym with strength training 3 days a week.
The reason I picked 9Rounds was because it's a 30 minute class, so when I am in a hurry, I can get in and out quickly and I can go in whenever. There are no class times, you can start when the next round starts.1
