When work gets in the way...

Lately I have been in a pretty good routine of taking a walk at lunch and making it to the gym to lift weights after work. Today I had to run an errand at lunch, so missed my walk. Then work ran late, so I was late to the gym as well. I told myself I would work extra hard to make up for the lost time, but instead found myself with little energy and ended the workout early. Even my nutrition suffered, because I forgot to pack my usual snacks and instead grabbed the protein bars I had stashed away.

I feel frustrated that I didn't meet my goals today and that I couldn't find my motivation when I needed it most. Does anyone have suggestions for how to manage days like these?

Pack your snacks bag tonight so you get tomorrow off to a great start. We all have bad days. Just don't let that become every day.

Exercise is not vital to weight loss, so a missed day isn't really a big deal. When you look at the calendar and calculate all the holidays, sick days, and off days you'll miss through the year (say 3 weeks worth) it's still only 5% of the year. A single missed day of exercise is .2% of the year. That's nothing.

I would encourage you to pack everything you need the night before. My whole work week's food is in a drawer in my fridge the day before my work week starts and on my way to bed every night I put everything I need in my lunch box.

I like these two suggestions of packing the night before. The .2% number also helped put things in perspective.
