Negative calorie adjustment question

I'm sure somewhere this has been answered, but I'm a tad confused. WHY would you want this enabled? I do have it enabled, but I'm thinking of turning it off.
My understanding was that MFP calorie allowance (if you're set on sedentary) is designed to give a calorie deficit even if you pretty much just sit around all day. So, if MFP is set up so that deficit will be created if I don't do anything at all, then why would I even GET a negative adjustment on less active days? If I don't sync my Fitbit at all, and it shows zero steps, it doesn't give me one, but once I sync my Fitbit, the negative shows up.

Sedentary still assumes a certain amount of movement, so if you've enabled your fitbit to sync negative calorie adjustments, it means you've moved even less than the sedentary calorie allowance. Sedentary assumes you're walking to your car, to the office, to the kitchen and back, etc etc. So let's say your sick, you didn't move out of bed all day, your husband/SO got everything for you, then that day you've burned less than the sedentary calorie level so if you ate your normal calories you would be over.
Personally, I don't like the negative adjustment because I do most of my activity in the evening so I show negative adjustments until like 7:00 pm which annoys me so I turned it off.2 -
I guess that would be for if you were on strict bed rest or in the hospital.1

I have an incredibly sedentary job. For instance, this was a normal day; got up, got ready for work, parked in a fairly close lot, went out at lunch, tried to get in a few laps around the office when it gave me the "nudge" but I'm not always able to do that because I'm usually on the phone at 10 minutes till the hour. So, as I finish my work day, I have just over 2,000 steps. Some days are less and the negative is really annoying when it happens.

Personally I like it, gives me a bit more motivation in the evening and as I know I do most of my exercise in the evening I don't worry about what I'm eating (ie I eat to my normal cal level). Just depends what you prefer I guess!2

Being set at sedentary assumes you will get at least 2,000 steps. I start getting positive adjustments once i hit 2k steps.
I have negative adjustments switched off, i average 13-15k steps everyday, so am not in much danger of getting negative adjustments. However, i had them enabled when i was set at lightly active and above.0 -
Thanks! I think I'll turn it off for a bit and see what I think of that.0

Has anyone having crazy syncing problems this week? It can go from adding steps twice and giving me massive amounts to eat to having a negative adjestment thinking somewhere I have burnt exercise elsewhere and included it twice to anywhere inbetween. Seriously driving me nuts having to mentally calculate where I am at all the time.0

I hate when it gives and then takes back workout calories. For example, I put in an hour of lap swimming (or weights or elliptical, whatever). It gave me this huge 500 calorie adjustment - which I used when I went to dinner. Later I started to put in my dinner, and the "Fitbit adjustment" was negative 250 or something, leaving my actual exercise adjustment at 250, so I was over by like 100 calories. The thing is, if I knew I had 400 calories left, I'd have a much different dinner than if I think I have 900 calories left. I don't know if taking the negative adjustment off will change that, but I hope so.
Is that what you mean?
