Feel like I'm starting over

So I have known for a while that my scale was off. It was bouncing sometimes upwards of 20 lbs from one day to the next. I know weight fluctuates, but not that drastically. Since I always weigh first thing in the morning, same clothing and right after I use the restroom, I was hoping to get the most accurate weight. I finally replaced my scale with a digital one yesterday. I was excited to get on it this morning and finally get an accurate reading. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that not only was the old scale off, it was off by 50+ lbs. I was completely crushed. I know I can't let it ruin what I have done, because i have lost weight. But I don't know what my actual weight loss is now. I feel like I'm starting from day one. I know it doesn't really matter what the actual weight lost number is because the goal is really just to be healthier and reach my goal. I can still do that even if it will take me longer than I thought. Thanks everyone for "listening." Just had to get it off my chest.

Well, unfortunately digital scales have problems, too.
I really only believe/trust the gym scales or the doctor's. My home digital scale is all over the place sometimes.
Put it on the exact same place on your floor every time. Step on and off quickly, then step back on for your weight. Replace the batteries every six months, when the time changes. I replace all my little appliance batteries twice a year.0 -
Oh crum! That would really depress me too. How do you know what you started out at? I guess you could add the 50+ pounds to your original weight but that sucks. I know that's no help but just wanted to say I feel for you. Hang in there kiddo. You're right you're doing a good thing and in the end it won't really matter as long as you get healthy.1

Take measurements! And pictures!
Here's to Day One. :drinker:1 -
Could the old scale have been on tile, carpet, or wood floor? That messes up the readings on ALL scales. Even a tilted floor can cause problems.
Here is an idea, could you call your doctor and beg them to look up the weight in your medical chart? I'm sure you have visited in the last year. It could give you an estimate. Don't email the office, call for this. Offices can also be off, but not by a lot.0 -

Yes we have all wood floors in our house. So there is nothing to be done about that. But I have it in a space where it will not be moved. So hopefully it will be as accurate as it can. I can't get any starting weight from my doctor because I didn't go prior to my weight loss, so the only weight they have is from about 4 months after I started. So I am looking at 25 lbs lost in about 8 months. So that is still a loss but not near where I "thought", or was hoping I was at.0
