Calorie deficit is good to lose weight. Lifting weights is good for helping retain muscle while you diet.

A calorie deficit is good to lose weight. Lifting is good to preserve muscle as you lose.

To lose weight, no. To lose fat yes. When you are lifting weights your muscles are depleting glycogen which means it needs to repair. It will take the energy (food) you put in your body first meaning it will not store. Plus you are still heating your muscles for long enough to increase body temp which will also help as long as you are doing high rep/ mid weight. Power lifting will not burn nearly as much. You should mix your weight traing with some cardio as it will increase fat loss.
