August Goal: Not die while ramping up running mileage and technicality during 100K training
Nominal mileage goal: 250 miles HAHAHAHA not gonna happen

Today's notes: After yesterday's 5+ hour 24 mile trail run, my legs were TIRED today. That said, that's the reason for these Sunday runs, to get TOF when you're tired. Went out ang got my 5 miles in. Averaged 9:36 pace and 149 HR, so a decent run, despite the tiredness. My new schedule seems to be working well, and the extra rest day really lets me get more out of my runs.

Oh, @JessicaMcB CDR is a goal race, just not sure when.... 24 hour cut off for a 77 mile race says a lot about the difficulty.

    Have a Runderful day everyone!

    2017 Races Scheduled
    6/16- William A Irvin 5k
    6/17- Grandma's Marathon 4:24:06
7/15- Eugene Curnow Trail Marathon 7:22:23
8/12- UMTR FatAss "Not Quite" 50k
8/19- Rampage at the Ridge 5k OCR
    9/23- Ely Marathon (full)
    10/21 Wild Duluth 100k

8 easy ones this morning with my running group. Legs weren't super tired from yesterday, but HR still relatively high for the pace I was moving. Taking it really easy today, just lazing around doing running laundry, eating Chinese takeout leftovers, and watching some Bake-Off on Netflix before getting my heart racing again for the Game of Thrones season finale tonight :#

    Upcoming Races:
    Oct 8: Steamtown Marathon
    Oct 22: Perfect 10 (10 Miler)
Nov 5: Princeton Half Marathon (pacer)

@midwesterner85 thats a great idea. How did he decide what items made his essential enough bottle list???

Left quad was seizing a lot this morning on the downhils so I was lazy and called it. Made my kids pancakes and realized I forgot to make my PT appointment for tomorrow- whoops!

@JessicaMcB I didn't ask for a list of what he had, but made notes going through the course as to what types of supplies we used. The first thing to consider is to have protective gear (nitrile gloves, mouth/nose mask, eye shield). Some items are going to be outside the kit, such as a rain jacket can be used as a waterproof covering (just wear it backwards to keep seams / zippers behind you and out of the way). Like it or not, protecting myself when giving first aid is most important.

Various supplies to help stop bleeding are extremely important because when you are several hours or days from definitive medical care, no amount of blood loss is acceptable. Things like the combat application tourniquet (CAT), gauze, tincture of benzoin, and a wound cover that allows oxygen flow (there are some window-type covers that can be purchased that are clear so they are easier to check). After that, I'm thinking a sleeping pad is a part of his hiking gear and not a part of the first aid kit in a Nalgene bottle. That's important to prevent someone who is injured from losing heat to the ground. Water for a patient to drink and to also be used to clean wounds by spraying with a pressure syringe. These are a few of the basics which can be used with all kinds of injuries and illnesses.

Skip ran with her Coach today and I decided to tag along. They ran mostly on the paved golf course path, but I ran on the cross country trail also half of the 4.5 miles. I realized how much I miss running on trails and this trail is a nightmare of a mess but it was still fun.

    @HonuNui dead pig, that’s different
Nice weekend of running @kristinegift sounds like a nice way to spend the rest of the day.
    Stay safe out there @amymoreorless
Great job on the 10K time @elise4270
I hate to admit, well maybe I don’t hate to admit it, but I’ve never seen one episode of Game of Thrones.

You mean, that's not a GAME?

I love my trails. Everytime I have to run a short segment of pavement I ask myself "how the hell am I gonna race on this hard *kitten* pavement". Luckily, @BEERRUNNER sends some trail races my way

1.34 with Kieran. His first sub 16 minute run on this course. Guilty of hydration belt for these runs but I think there is an exception when running with a seven year old.
@skippygirlsmom can't say I am at all shocked by your viewing choices. No offense but you seem like the kind of lady that watches "This is us" with a fresh tissue box by your side.

    60.4/60 miles completed

I had a nice long run today and met my goal for August! It was only 77°F when I started and was "cool" for most of the run. The sun did start coming out about the last .5 miles and that was definitely the hardest. I was slower than I would like, but I am trying to concentrate on distance for my long runs and not worry too much about speed. I guess I just expected to be a little faster since it was cooler. My kids were both in this weekend to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday so there was less sleep and more food and drink than usual this weekend. I was glad to have the run this morning after they both headed home. I guess I am officially old. I love having the kids home, but it is kind of nice to have my house and my routine back.

@WandaVaughn and @cameronheel Congrats on the races and PRs.

    @amymoreorless Stay safe and dry!

    @Marissaxzxzxz Happy Anniversary!

@kristinegift and @skippygirlsmom I just recently started watching GOT. I am just on the 2nd season. I'm afraid it will take me a long time to catch up.

@amymoreorless - hope you are safe and dry. Please be careful. Hurricane and Flood events are no joke.

    8/1 - 3 mile run
    8/2 - Rest Day
8/3 - Thunderstorms this morning, no running this morning. Thunderstorms are suppose to clear out this afternoon and if the roads are dry enough I will run this evening. If not, dreadmill at the gym. Life happened - work an hour over at job, then when I arrived home my son needed stuff for his football retreat this weekend, so off to the store we went.
    8/4 - 4 mile run
    8/21 -3 mile run
    8/22 - 4 mile run
    8/23 - Scheduled rest day
    8/24 - Sick Day
    8/25 - Sick Day
    8/26 - Sick Day

Caught a summer cold and was in bed for three days. DH thinks I may have had a mild case of the flu.

The rain from Hurricane Harvey hit us here in Louisiana and it is predicted to rain all day everyday through Friday. Looks like the dreadmill is where I will be running this week.

@cburke8909 I tell everyone that if they took USA and Bravo off my TV I would die. I like things like Law & Order and all it's spin offs and Housewives of Everywhere are my guilty pleasure ha ha. Nice run with Kieran, I agree on water with the kids, they don't hydrate themselves enough by habit.

@bride001 feel better soon and be safe

@elise4270 I'm with you when I get on a trail I'm like why do I run the neighborhood

@WandaVaughn great job on your new personal best! Tremendous!
@cameronheel Great job on your 10k! Hope you enjoyed those post race calories you earned.
@kristinegift good job getting your long run in. I don't think I notice much effect of caffeine but I haven't looked at how much I've been taking in - I know the sports beans I have do have some. I just looked - it's 50 mg. But I don't think I eat a whole serving at a time.
@JessicaMcB wow, that's quite a training run. Ouch to the chafing!
@amymoreorless stay dry and safe! Hope you don't suffer through too much power outage. And @bride001 too!
@elise4270 good job on shaving time off your 10k! You are really coming along!
@ClaireBeneymfp good job with getting 10k done too!
@skippygirlsmom glad you had a fun trail run. I like trails - most of the time. And I don't watch GoT either. I did watch the first couple of seasons so maybe I'll catch up again someday.
@HonuNui I still intend to sign up for the virtual melanoma run. I will!

I'm glad so many are enjoying some cooler weather, as we are here. Today was so nice. I took my dog, Stella, for a hike this morning and she was full of energy with the cooler temps. Did my run this evening and it was still pretty nice, although much more humid than I anticipated. I was already a little sweaty from putting up blinds and curtains (lots of swearing and sweating involved in that) so I might have felt worse than it was. Still, what a treat at the end of August.

Edited to add: Congrats @orphia on your first marathon!!! You did it, and you did a great job. So happy for you.

@PastorVincent that's a hibiscus. Mine is in bloom too.

    Love the pics.

ETA I wonder if you can use the flowers for tea...
