Hiya. After years of SW and target member 3 times I've decided to reinstall MFP and count cals. I have 9 weeks til my hols.
I've put I want to lose 2lbs a week which gives me 1200 cals a day.
This is my day.
1200 -1358 food +569 exercise = 411 remaining.
I'm not planning on eating the remaining 411. Should I?
Any help appreciated xx

Personally, I wouldn't. But I want to see what others have to say as well So I am posting to see what others say. Good job though!

If your calorie goal comes from MFP, it's designed for you to eat back exercise calories. If you truly burned 569 calories though exercise, it drives your net calories too low to burn 500+ and not eat them back. The only concern I would have is how you're calculating your calorie burn, it potentially could be an over-estimate. How did you determine you burned 569 through exercise?

Agree with the others - depends on how accurate your 569 calorie burn is. Also is 2 lbs a week a reasonable goal? How much do you have to lose total? Unless you have a very large amount to lose 2 lbs is usually too much for most people.

its all about how accurate and honest you are when logging. I have a fit bit that syncs and I will eat those calories only. Any other activity I don't log, like my weightlifting. I find its pretty accurate and I love eating my extra calories!!

569 is a pretty decent burn and 1200 calories is a pretty low starting baseline. I might eat back 200 of those calories for a week and see how that makes you feel. Increase immediately if you feel like you're running short on energy.

I've got 1.5 stone to shift AGAIN woe is me. The exercise is from my fitbit. I go away in 9 weeks so I would like 2lbs a week. Initially I was quite surprised at how low my cal intake has been worked out. Ideally I just wanted to eat say the 1200 cals and not factor in any exercise cals but dipped into slightly after the gym with some oat cakes and teaspoon peanut butter.

How did you calculate that burn?

If you do choose to eat some back, a lot of people only eat 50% back just to err on the side of caution. I eat my exercise calories back because I get super hungry if I don't. It's a slower weight loss, but it is what works for me!

Try not eating it back and adjust as you go if need be. Just remember to adjust instead of quit if something isn't working.

It depends on what you want to accomplish in the long run. 2lbs a week is too aggressive if you only need to lose about 20lbs (I think I converted that correctly). At this aggressive rate whatever you lose leading up to your holiday you will almost certainly put back on quickly. So if you're OK with that, go for it.

If on the other hand, you'd like to drop some weight in the next 9 weeks then relax and little on vacation and eat at maintenance, drop your goal to no more than 1 lb a week and reset it for vacation to maintain your weight, go enjoy your holiday then get back on your plan with a .5 lb/wk loss after that. It's far more sustainable over time than your plan.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your holiday and I wish you all the best!

Also, I wear a Fitbit and find it to be extremely accurate at calculating my calories, but I do a lot of step-based cardio.
