Working out and going to bed without food.

Hey guys so I was just wondering what you would think of this. So first off I'm a night owl. I sleep from 4am to 12pm. I also do Intermittent Fasting, and I usually fast from 11pm to 3pm. I work as a waiter from 4pm to 10pm. I have two meals a day, one around 3pm and the other around 10:30pm. Thing is I workout twice a day. Both during my fasting period. Once around 1am (weight training) and the other as soon as I wake up around 12pm (cardio). Honestly I feel great doing this and my body is getting stronger, growing muscle, and slimming down. However I'm reading that you should always eat imminently after working out, or atleast have a protien shake, but this would break my fast. Do you guys believe I should just continue what I'm doing or change my ways ?

i think this might come under ain't broke don't fix it. i assume you're in the 'noob' phase right now, but the way people's bodies adapt to training also tends to adapt, over the longer term.

so you can always monitor yourself and change it up if you do start to feel like eating something before bed will be helpful.

If what you are doing is getting you to your goals and you are not seeing any negative impacts (moody, feeling hungry, tired all the time, etc) - then you are fine. The drinking a protein shake right after your workout comes from "bro science" and does have some standing to it.....assuming you are trying to optimize building muscles. When getting into the nitty gritty of all sports (endurance to body building) the timing of meals actually is important for ultimate optimization of performance. Calorie counts and macro breakdowns are also taken into account.

However - if your goal at the moment is to continue shedding pounds, getting stronger and being healthy....you should be just fine.

" Honestly I feel great doing this and my body is getting stronger, growing muscle, and slimming down" Why in the world would you want to change?

There are exceptionally few "must dos" in this arena. If your current routine is working for you, keep doing it.

If it's working for you, continue doing it. Just make sure that you are getting a food based vitamin / mineral supplement.

If it's working for you then theres really no reason to change it.... It's probably better for you to get something to eat between your workouts and if you're just starting, anything you do is going to work and you'll see results but if things start to slow down, I'd recommend looking into eating some protein and carbs after weight training.
