Fitbit and exercise

I wear a zip and most of my exercise lately is walking. This morning I spent a half hour digging a hole in the yard. Normally I just let my fitbit log my steps and don't count extra calories unless I'm doing an actual workout but I'm not sure if I should log this?
If I log the half hour, will fitbit just deduct the steps I took during that time from my step calories burned? Am I better off just ignoring it and counting the steps like usual?
I'm starting my 9th week on MFP, I'm doing well on 1300-1600 calories a day and I've lost 14 pounds so far, so I'm doing fine. Not looking for extra calories to eat. Just looking for the best way to log.
