@sijomial Sorry to read about your back! I hope all is well now.

@AgileK9 You spend a lot of time riding on the trails, great!

    --

I managed to get at least close to my target, even if I won't reach it. A longer ride last Sunday, and a really long (distance PR) ride today, and now I'm at 311km for the month. Not quite 400km, but not a complete fail either

    Wed, 02/08/2017 - 11.5km commute
    Fri, 04/08/2017 - 25.9km commute & trip downtown
    Sun, 06/08/2017 - 31.8km Sunday ride
    Mon, 07/08/2017 - 11.5km commute
    Thu, 10/08/2017 - 11.1 km commute
    Mon, 14/08/2017 - 8.9km commute
Tue, 15/08/2017 - 11.5km ride to climbing gym
    Wed, 16/08/2017 - 9.7km commute
Thu, 17/08/2017 - 21.4km commute & ride to climbing gym
Sun, 20/08/2017 - 62km Sunday ride (first half with a colleague, second half alone)
Tue, 22/08/2017 - 11.5km ride to climbing gym
Thu, 24/08/2017 - 11.5km ride to climbing gym
Sun, 27/08/2017 - 84.1km Tour du Canton de Genève (parcours argent)
    ---
311km for August (of 400km goal)

You'd think that after an 84 km ride, I would have tons of calories left over at the end of the day, but it's impressive how much you can eat and drink while cycling. I just summed it up, logging the food and drink during the ride alone adds up to nearly a thousand calories! Well, there's still some pizza and ice cream left in the bugdet for today

    Getting there thanks. :)
Back to cycling and training now. I've been given one hell of a set of rehab exercises by my Osteo to try to build my core strength up to compensate for my damaged spine.
It's made me realise my core was strong in some planes but not in others. Two minute standard planks are fine but side planks are pure evil....

No particular goal this month and no events to look forward to either. :(

Planned a social ride on Saturday with my work assistant and cycling protégé but the weather forecast intervened. He needs a little push to increase his mileage so promised to tow him home if he struggled.

Did the route solo today instead and it took in two Royal Palaces: Hampton Court and Windsor Castle. Lovely ride through Windsor Great Park.

Took me on roads I haven't ridden in ages and it was nice to set a whole load of PRs - quite satisfying to know I'm still improving despite my advanced years!

    MTD
    5 Hours - 91 miles - 41 Personal Records - 3 Activities

    YTD
    177 Hours - 2,919.5 miles - 363 Personal Records - 153 Activities

    Three highlights this week....
1/ Getting a bit repetitive doing my local rides so slung the bike in the back of the car to ride some brand new roads. 60 miler centred on Liphook in Hamphire. Got lost repeatedly, GPS seemed very flaky, also managed to lose where I had parked the car, that's really handy when you are tired and out of water!
Didn't realise it was such a hilly area - 3,900' of climbing and constant changes of elevation. Found a beast of a hill, only 5% average gradient but the damn thing went on for 2 miles without a break (highlghted below). Far more of a challenge to ride strange roads and navigate when you don't have a mind map of the area.

    33m5uohlsnq4.png

2/ Broken the 3,000 barrier for the year.

3/ Decided to retire from work in four weeks time - going to be loads more opportunities to cycle.

    12 Hours - 186 miles - 41 Personal Records - 10 Activities

    YTD
    184 Hours - 3,014.5 miles - 363 Personal Records - 160 Activities

    Bad week!
Back went into a major spasm on Monday (took an hour to get myself off the kitchen floor...) and it sidelined me completely.
Only back to exercise today with a steady ride avoiding potholes but did have a little sprint on a few Strava segments for fun.

    MTD
    14 Hours - 219 miles - 45 Personal Records - 11 Activities

    YTD
    186 Hours - 3,048.1 miles - 367 Personal Records - 161 Activities
Getting back to normal and getting some nice rides in.
Today was lovely - hot & sunny on a Bank Holiday, that can't be right? ;)

Did a moderate effort 46.5 mile fairly flat ride including some nice woodland sections which were lovely and cool.

    MTD
    22 Hours - 355 miles - 56 Personal Records - 15 Activities

@Machka9 Sorry to hear that - I hope you get over the sinus infection quickly and can go back to riding soon!

@kcjchang 8 hours per week is already a lot, great!

@AgileK9 and @crumpin0828 Awesome photos! I don't have a bike pic from my ride this weekend, but here's two photos from the last few weeks:

    August 15 - 2 hours (Trail Miles 5.6)
    August 17 - 1 hour (Trail Miles 8.5)

    16.5 hours

Hoping to ride tonight which will have me reaching my goal despite looking like I wasn't going to.

It's been really smokey here in MT with all the fires going on in the state. We had a couple Red days here in Billings which is Unhealthy for everyone rating.

Weather turned wet so headed indoors and used a WattbikePro for some more technical training - I find it useful to push really hard indoors to rediscover that I'm not actually going to die even though sometimes it feels that way....
Hopefully that "confidence" carries over to outdoor rides tackling big hills and long climbs.

20 minute FTP test to push my HR then 45 minutes zone 3 afterwards.

    381 miles for the month.
