Hi guys, I'm 36, 6'2 and 13.5 stone. Been a regular 10k (pb 39:15) and half marathon (1:26) runner for about 8 years. Last year or so the knees have been not too happy with doing anything over 10 miles. Don't want to admit it's my age but probably is. Any hints to alleviate aches and pains??

    ibuprofen?

But I am a big fan of listening to my body. If my knees said don't run more than 10 miles, I wouldn't.

What does your cross training/stretching involve? Are you taking any supplements (turmeric/tart cherry juice/fish oils/glucosamine). How many miles a week are you running/how much rest?

Vitamin I on a regular basis will mess with the digestive system.

How's your running form? I personally believe that good form is the key to avoiding most running injuries. You might want to look up "Chi running" and "the Pose Method" to learn how to run with a lot less impact on the joints, it's helped me tremendously.

What is your cross training like? You do cross train, right? 36? It isn't your age, Sir. Talk to me in 26 years.

Yeah, drop to about 165lbs. It's not like you need the mass anyway if you're a runner.

It's not your age. 36 is a baby.

If you've been an active and avid runner for a long time, it could be that you're just now feeling the culmination of years of abuse. Kind of like how Tiger Woods always had a bad back...he was just young enough to ignore and push through it.

I would probably check with a specialist to confirm that everything's OK and that you don't have any damage to your cartilage, etc. As much as it sucks, some people just get bad knees and some injuries tend to stick around and cause problems later.

Go and get your knees checked out by a Physio.
It's not your age alone, knees can get injured at any age.

Or swap to cycling, far kinder to my very elderly knees.

Please don't wrap your knees or use some random brace. Find out the issue from a medical professional and use any wrap/brace at their direction.

You are entering the age when, if you want to continue being a distance runner, you need to do regular strength and conditioning for your legs, core, and glutes.

Not necessarily knee-specific, but regular yoga and stretching (just 15-30 mins a few days a week) have really helped me avoid pain and injury in general. I started doing this seriously about 6 months ago and could tell a huge difference within weeks.
