Hey saw you had no comments

There is a group for hyper/hypothyroidism where you may be able to get more responses

I'm hypo so don't know about being hyper

I have been on meds for hyperthyroidism (Graves) for 1 1/2 years. I'm on Tapazole. I gained weight - about 10 pounds and I have been fighting so hard to get it off. With the amount of effort it has taken me to lose 5 pounds, I would have lost about 15 3 years ago. I am pretty frustrated, but I have not given up!!

like any thyroid meds it may take time to dial in your dose - maybe the initial one was too high - do you have an appointment for bloodwork followup (normally about 3 months after starting meds)? I'm thyroidless - but it took close to 2yrs to get my meds dialed in correctly

    Hang in there.
I was Hyper, and while on the meds I continued to gain and gain with no luck in losing the weight. I received a radioactive iodine treatment in 2015 which successfully killed off the nodules over producing in my thyroid. I then went hypo, but am now on levothyroxine to correct the hypo. I now fluctuate on the normal to hyper line, and have had no trouble losing weight.

I would recommend having your doctor adjust your dose and keep checking blood levels. If this doesn't work, maybe try another medication. I had success with Methamazole for awhile before I had the iodine treatment. Also, you could look into other forms of treatment depending on why your thyroid is hyperactive.

Feel free to add me if you'd like a friend.

I get my blood drawn every 6 weeks. I've been taking meds for almost 2 years. I tried going off the meds a few months ago at the 18 month mark because my thyroid levels were stabilized. But when I went off I was hyper again. So now I am back on. I could have done radioactive iodine, but I did not want to.

My daughter is hyperthyroid...diagnosed 3 months ago, in part because she lost 10 lbs while eating nonstop! She was told by her doctor that her metabolism would return to normal, taking the methamizole? and her appetite---reason she was eating so much---would need to adjust. She's stayed the same, but it's only been 3 months, so time will tell.
