We're road tripping to California in two weeks from Washington, and will be gone for ten days. We'll be doing things like the beach and the San Diego zoo, etc. We're also going to be with my husband's family and he is more excited about his moms traditional Argentinian food than he is eating out, which is okay with me. Saves money for other things!

My plan is to drink all the water, log as accurately as possible, keep it to one indulgent thing per day, to give myself grace to enjoy my time, and my goal for the month of August is to maintain my trend weight. I'm being tight on my logging and activity while at home to help achieve this.

Any other tips/tricks you guys have to survive this? Obviously, two days of driving both ways will be 4 days of limited activity, and we're packing food to eat so we don't stop at drive thru joints. Plan ahead, or plan to fail, right?

I'd say just practice moderation where you can and enjoy yourself. Keep it healthy during the car rides - there's nothing worse than feeling like crap in a moving vehicle because all you've eaten for 2 days is fast food and salty snacks. Pack some nice fresh fruit to bring with you and stay hydrated!

Enjoy your meals but remind yourself not to stuff yourself. If you expect a large family meal in the evening, try having a smaller breakfast and lunch. Load up on veggies as much as you can to avoid bowel issues during your vacay!

I personally wouldn't worry about trying to track on vacation, it's hard when others are doing the cooking anyway. Just listen to your body. :)

Enjoy meals, try new foods. Being on vacation means you're busy exploring, and not sitting around snacking/grazing. I always lose weight on vacation.

My only vacation tips are enjoy yourself and indulge without thinking of it as a 'free for all' eating frenzy. Be sensible and have fun!

My advice is more for when you get back from your trip...
Resume your regular routine, drink a lot of water, and don't step on the scale for a week.
That should take care of any water weight you may gain on your trip.
    Relax and have fun!

Everyone has a different approach. I'm coming down on the side of "eat what you want but log it all". Previously I did "eat what you want and don't log anything", but I'm happier logging, and it makes it easier for me to get back on the horse afterwards.

    Your mileage may vary.

While in the car the first day and the last day i would adhere to my meal plan. The rest of the time i would log so i could be more conscientious about how much I am eating, but I wouldnt let it hole me back. Especially if your pretty mobile all day. If you have a break day or a day thay you dont do as much, try eating less since you wont be burning as much.

Enjoy your vacation and make smart foot choices. For me, vacation means exploring, sightseeing, hiking and not stuffing myself senseless. I still want to explore exotic food, but I make sure I eat normal portions. Managed to get through each vacation in over three years without gaining weight. And I've been on many.
