How do I use a food scale to count calories? Like say something had 275 grams total, how many calories would that be?

read the packaging weigh out a serving size, Or use the USDA website for packageless stuff. Some minor math is involved if going with more/less thn the recomended servings nothing scary1

Depends what the food is. 275 grams of cucumber is going to have a vastly different calorie count than 275 grams of Cheetos.
The packaging should say, but sometimes you have to calculate portions if they're listed as cups in the database.2 -

You have to do some research. Look up individual foods for nutritional value. There isn't a single scale for all foods. 20g of cucumbers have a lot less calories than 20g of chicken....1 -
Use the database that this app provides. Look up the food or scan the barcode using that feature on the app. Select the measurement you are using (probably 1.0 gram or 100 grams) and input the serving size.
So if you have 275 grams and the measurement on the app is 100 grams, your serving size is 2.75. The app will then calculate the calories. If a measurement on the app is 1 g, I like to choose that because it requires no math for me to plug in 275 servings of 1 gram. (But don't worry. You didn't really eat 275 servings of something. That's just the easiest way to input it.)
As previous posters said, every food will have a different calorie value per gram.1 -
https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list Use that site to find the food.
It tells you how many calories are in 100 grams. It uses "energy" instead of calories, but it's calories. 275 grams is 2.75 of 100. You can actually change the portion field at that site to show the calories in 275 grams. Once you find that food in the mfp database, do the same sort of stuff to find the nutrition in 275 grams of the stuff. The ndb.nal site is the truth. The mfp database can be false. Use the mfp database with appropriate caution.1
