I am here to distract myself too. I want something sweet and I am trying to ignore the cookies my mom bought yesterday for all the kids (I'm visiting my parents with my kids). It sucks to know they're over there, but it sucks to feel awful after eating them realizing no matter how good they taste, it's just not worth it. Keep strong! Avoid the salty snacks.

I'm avoiding the insane cupcake craving I have right now. Luckily I don't have any in the house!

Funny how we all have our own little enemies. I can't have bread in the house because it mysteriously evaporates if I do...

I'd love a giant pile of nachos right now, love me some tex-mex.

But I don't have a few thousand extra calories for the day so I will just keep reading instead.

Pretty sure my body does not need a cupcake right now. If I still want it in the morning though, I will be making some.

The body may crave what it needs, but the mind craves what it wants. If people only craved what they needed, noone would need to lose weight :)

If OP is working out and craves salt its because the body loses up to about 600x the sodium when working out compared to potassium.
That means once the sodium is low, other minerals need to step in and that could prove lethal!
Heres the deal, all things in moderation.
Get about 2500mg sodium per day so long as you dont have heart issues.
If you are cramping during your training or if you are eating 70%+ clean, add salt back in.
So much fear mongering on something the body needs for simple cell function and you guys want to cut it out.

Also if you have high acidity in your system, dealing with heartburn and other digestive issues, sodium is needed!

"The strong ion difference determines your pH levels

If you have listened closely to your physics teacher, you will yet probably be aware that an "elecrolyte" (electro- ~ charge, -lyte ~ carrier) is a positively or negatively charged molecule (ion) and nothing out of the ordinary in nature.

In your body electrolytes are used to establish ionically charged gradients, similar to the gradient that exists between the positive and negative pole of a battery. These gradients are situated on the cell embranes in excitable tissues, such as muscle and verve, where they facilitate or hinder the influx / efflux of other charged particles.

One of these gradients, in fact probably the physiologically most significant one, by the way, is established by positive sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) ions and their negative counterpart chloride (Cl-) - exactly those electrolytes you've heard about in yesterday's show (remember: whenever you hear "salt" it actually means Na + Cl)."

No one in this thread said anything about cutting out sodium, so I'm not sure why you went into teacher mode and felt the need to instruct everyone on the necessity of salt. This was simply about people not wanting to eat something salty or sweet or whatever at that given moment and coming here to distract themselves from thinking about food.

I didn't give in either and now this morning I did not feel it necessary to make cupcakes for breakfast, so apparently my body didn't really "need" a cupcake since I'm no longer craving it.

    LOL at rice cakes.
Rice cakes are the worst thing to eat if trying to cut fat BTW.
The score a measly 100 on the glycemic index.
    Did it say measly?
    I meant MAX glycemic load.

    Pretzels?
    Really?

    Ignore everything this poster says.

If you need salt go out and buy a Himalayan salt mill and sprinkle 1/4 tsp on your meals.
Youll get the sodium amongst other useful electrolytes.
