Why is it so hard to start again...

I've been successfully maintaining without logging for about a year now. Unfortunately I've gained a couple pounds in the last couple months when I've actually wanted to lose a few (I blame winter) and realised that if I'm serious about losing I need to get serious about logging again.
I know the reasons I have for losing
- to lose weight on my thighs. I don't like how they look and it's not fair I get chin rub at my size
- I want to improve my running speed. I feel like I'm being weighed down, and while I got a pb at my last half marathon (1:35:43), it was only a pb by 46 seconds and after the extra training I've done it should have been better. It's probably too late to have high hopes for my full marathon in September, but there's a half in December I'd like to smash

But I'm finding it so hard to be motivated. I found it pretty easy the first time around, when I had more weight to lose and no concrete goals except weight loss. Why am I finding it so hard to recommit?
Anyone had this problem?

Loss of novelty. First time round, it's an adventure and the success is new. The sense of accomplishment keeps you going.

Second time around, you're going down the same road you've been down and there is the additional humdrum to it. Plus, if you're me, you're dark on yourself for having to do it again, so that takes some of the shine off.

My theory is that starting feels new and fresh and exciting, and your goal, or "room for improvement" now is very small compared to losing a good chunk of weight.

You have to find the commitment inside you. Or maybe you are good enough already? Everybody can't end up on the podium. Being really really successful in sports - aka a winner - is partly about having favourable genes, but it also takes a lot of effort and time and sacrifice.

ONLY A 46 SECOND PB?!!! That's totally awesome!!

And a HM of 1:35:43?!!! In my dreams. My goal is sub-2 and after 17 runs of HM or more, it's looking a very, very distant possiblility. I'm doing my first marathon in less than 3 weeks, and will be over the moon if I get under 5 hours.

You totally rock, and you should know that you are amazing for what you are now. And you look incredible in your profile pic!
