Dropping the unhealthy weekend water weight

Hi Everyone,
I had a pretty rough weekend this weekend, it involved several family gatherings and a trip to the renaissance festival where there was wine slushies galore! But anyways, I pretty much ate my way through the weekend and when I stepped on the scale last night I gained a whopping 6 pounds in one weekend. I know this is obviously mostly water weight but I was wondering peoples best come backs from sodium gain? I have been drinking water steadily all day so far but I was wondering if there are any home remedies or foods you have had luck with for dropping the bloated uncomfortable feeling of water weight. I will obviously avoid high sodium foods for a few days and I have heard that high intensity cardio aka "sweating it out" can help with bloat and water weight and was wondering if anyone has had success with this? Thanks!

I just wait it out. I tried diuretics, but then I'd just rebound a couple days later.

wait it out - heavy cardio could have the opposite effect as it may make you retain even more water (if its a deviation from your normal routine)

I should mention as well the weight is not what is bothering me but I am feeling very bloated and uncomfortable and that is what I want to combat.

there is nothing really healthy that you can do to deal with it; wear something loose today, drink a decent amount of water but don't go overboard and it'll be gone in a day or so. Then remember how uncomfortable it was this time, next time you have a binge like that

The best "come back" is time. Just let your body fix itself. If you start doing all kinds of random nonsense in an attempt to speed things up, your poor body won't know whether to get rid of the water like it would normally; or hold onto it to heal your muscles because you decided to run 10 miles, or wonder what brand new substance you've introduced to your gastrointestinal system and if it should be on the lookout for that. It's going to be uncomfortable today. Probably tomorrow too. But your best choice is just to go back to your normal process (meaning drink water - maybe a bit more than usual but not 17 gallons) and let your body take care of it.

Sweating it out works. So does waiting it out. Drinking tomato juice or eating a banana can sometimes help by upping your potassium levels.

Nothing is wrong so there is nothing to fix.

There's nothing inherently unhealthy about water retention - your body does it for very necessary reasons to properly maintain the concentration of bodily fluids. As to losing it, I just let my kidneys do their thing - the body is excellent at water balance, so just keep drinking water like normal and let time do its thing.

Thanks for all the replies, I will ride it out and definitely remind myself of how crummy I felt next time I want to binge!

Just keep at your usual routine. I find that if I overeat for a day or two in a row this happens to me too. And like you say, next time try to remember how you are feeling right now. Sounds like you had a great weekend though!
